Nephi and Hell

The following addresses the purpose and formation of hell which the bible and the book of Mormon seem to contradict.

Mat 25:38  When did we see You a stranger, and took You in? Or naked, and clothedYou?
Mat 25:39  Or when did we see You sick, or in prison,and came to You?
Mat 25:40  And the King shall answer and say to them,Truly I say to you, Inasmuch as you did itto one of the least of these My brothers, you have done it to Me.
Mat 25:41  Then He also shall say to those on the left hand,Depart from Me, you cursed, into everlasting fire prepared for the Devil and his angels.
Mat 25:42  For I was hungry, and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty, and you gave Me no drink;
Mat 25:43  I was a stranger and you did not take Me in;I was naked, and you did not clothe Me; I was sick, and in prison, and you did not visit me.

This verse clearly establishes hell as created for the devil and his angels. This establishes two points.
1.      Because Hell is created, Jesus is responsible for both its creation and continued existence. (Nothing was made that was not made through the word and Jesus is the word. And by his word all things have their substance and continued existence)
2.      The purpose is clearly established to hold the devil and his angels. This was intended as a prison for demons not men.

We further know that Satan will be a prisoner within hell and will have no power inside. He does not rule it. We know this by the following verses.

Rev 20:8  And he will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle. The number of themis as the sand of the sea.
Rev 20:9  And they went up over the breadth of thee arth and circled around the camp of the saints, and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of Heaven and devoured them.
Rev 20:10  And the Devil who deceived them was cast into the Lake of Fire and Brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet were . And he will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
Rev 20:11  And I saw a great white throne, and Him sitting on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And a place was not found for them.

Satan will be tormented because he is a prisoner and is being punished for his crimes. This is not just a future event. Fallen angels exist in terror of their future fate. This is not only because they will eventually be condemned to the prison but also because some of them are held now in hell where Satan will join them as fellow prisoner.

Mat 8:28  And when He had come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, two demon-possessed ones met Him, coming out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that no one might pass by that way.
Mat 8:29  And behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with You, Jesus, Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?

Jud 1:5  Now I want to remind you, although you once fully knew it, that Jesus, who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.
Jud 1:6  And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains

Rev 20:1  And I saw an angel come down from Heaven,having the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand.
Rev 20:2  And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him a thousand years.
Rev 20:3  And he cast him into the abyss and shut him up and set a seal on him, that he should deceive the nations no more until the thousand years should be fulfilled. And after that he must be loosed a little time.

This is in complete contradiction to the following verses inthe book of Mormon.

1 Nephi
Chapter 14

3 And that great ^apit, which hath been digged for them by that great and abominable church, which was founded by the devil and his children, that he might lead away the souls of men down to hell—yea, that great pit which hath been digged for the destruction of men shall be filled by those who digged it, unto their utter destruction, saith the Lamb of God; not the destruction of the soul, save it be the casting of it into that ^bhell which hath no end.
 4 For behold, this is according to the ^acaptivity of the devil, and also according to the justice of God,upon all those who will work wickedness and abomination before him.

This verse claims that hell was founded by the devil and fallen angels not to hold them but for the purpose of holding the children of men.

Chapter: 15

34 But behold, I say unto you, the kingdom of God is not filthy, and there cannot any unclean thing enter into the kingdom of God; wherefore there must needs be a place of ^afilthiness prepared for that which is filthy.
 35 And there is a place prepared, yea, even that ^aawful ^bhell of which I have spoken, and the ^cdevil is the preparator of it; wherefore the final state of the souls of men is to dwell in the kingdom of God, or to be cast out because of that ^djustice of which I have spoken.

This also establishes the devil as the preparer of hell which he is not.

Addition - 10-16-2013

2 Nephi Chapter 2
29 And not choose eternal death, according to the will of the flesh and the ^aevil which is therein, which giveth the spirit of the devil power to ^bcaptivate, to bring you down to ^chell, that he may reign over you in his own kingdom.

This is an additional problem. According to Nephi, the devil's kingdom is in hell. This is not so. The Bible clearly states that Satan's dominion is over the Earth.

2Co 4:3  But also if our gospel is hidden, it is hidden to those being lost,
2Co 4:4  in whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving ones, so that the light of the glorious gospel of Christ (who is the image of God) should not dawn on them.

Here he is called the god of this world. He rules not in hell, where he will be a prisoner as well, but on the surface of this world.

Eph 2:2  in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience; 

Eph 2:3  among whom we also had our way of life in times past, in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the thoughts, and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

Here he is called the prince of the air. So, according to the Bible, Satan rules over the surface and the air. 

Joh 12:31  Now is the judgment of this world. Now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
